Hosle V.

On the Relation of Morals and Politics

The text now published presents translation of the final fragment, Chapter 2 of V.Hosle’s “Morals and Politics” (1997). In this passage, the author emphasizes that cratological approach to politics tends to deny the transcendence of morality in relation to social phenomena. As for V.Hosle himself, he, in contrast, points to the inevitability of policy evaluation normative in character. In his opinion, only morality itself may criticize moralism in politics. In this connection he offers a concept of “ethics of ethics” which is to express the idea of moral self-restraint. In conclusion, the author examines some of the arguments advanced against ”moralizing” of politics.
