Democracy and Political Market in a Comparative Perspective (1)

The article, by an author from the Moscow University, touches upon historical evolution of the relations of powerholders and subjects: compulsion becomes «cultural» by its nature. In modern society, it is market that gradually turns into the main mechanism bringing together those former and those latter. In countries of «new democracy», political market is formed much more quickly than commodity and services market. The author analyzes the marketing approach to politics in Russia, joining in the experience of the 1999 parliamentary elections, and stresses that the problems of neutralizing the negative consequences of the marketization of political sphere are especially topical for Russia where totalitarianism succeeded in destroying traditional society.
