National vs State Interest: Theoretical Concepts and Political Reality. A Round Table and Fragments of the Discussion.

The publication of the round table materials consists of two parts. The first one contains politicians’, as well as a political scientist’s and a publicist’s, answers to questions. The materials of this “extra-mural” part of the event are unequal in vol-ume, for they represent either concrete answers, or free interpretations of the themes related to national and/or state interest, offered by the Polis for discussion. Here the reader meets with deputies of the State Duma: A.I.Nikolayev, S.S.Mitrokhin, S.Yu.Glaz’yev, and with specialists regularly studying the problems of interests: I.G.Yakovenko, Ya.A.Pl’ays, S.N.Gradirovsky. The second part of the publi-cation contains materials of an open discussion at the editorial office, that gathered representatives of the younger generation of Russian political scientists. The dispu-tants were: S.D.Baranov, I.A.Klimov, G.I.Musikhin, D.N.Zam’atin, Z.V.Klimenko, V.V.Lapkin, A.N.Okara, B.V.Mezhuyev (an editor of the Polis and organizer of the National Interest rubric in this issue). The round table on the problems of a constel-lation of theoretical concepts as such, of correlation of national and state interests, and of their socio-politically meaningful interpretation as applied to modern Russia, brings to the forefront, as members of the editorial staff believe, a whole complex of views and ideas, rich in scientific content and, for that matter, simply interesting, concerning the above range of problems. The Polis proposes to continue studies of the said problems and publications of materials thereof, for the readers, in particular politicians and their advisers, to have at their disposal theoretical and practical aids that could be of use for them in their activity.
