Explication of Politician’s Ideological Representations: Linguistico-Cognitive Approach

The article tackles the problem of interrelations between ideology, political discourse and social cognition. The cognitive dimension of ideology is given in terms of social cognitions, according to which ideologies are the fundamental beliefs that form the basis of the social representations of a group. They are represented in social memory as some kind of “group-schema” that defines the identity of a group. The article introduces linguistic ways of revealing explicitly and implicitly expressed ideologies, with the use of the materials of political discourse, say, of Russian political parties’ programs, and also suggests directions for further research work on ideology.
