Family Citizenship of the Youth in the Northern Caucasus

An attempt is undertaken in the article to retrace peculiarity of the formation of citizenship in the Northern Caucasus by analyzing everyday discourse of its inhabitants. It is a series of interviews with representatives of the youth of Vladikavkaz, Krasnodar and Makhach-Kala, that is taken as the basis for the research. According to the author’s conclusion, North Caucasian youths’ and girls’ identity, irrespective of their nationality, forms on the basis of kinship and family relations. All social relations are subordinate to the rules regulating the life of the family. Traditional culture is much more stable than norms being inserted from pseudo-public life. The real publicity, reproducing and forming social relations, determining the rules and the rhythms of private and social life, is rooted in kinship relations. On stating that it is this real publicity, instead of outer norms transmitted from Moscow, that moulds citizenship in the Northern Caucasus, the author defines this citizenship as family one.
