World Politics, or Running on the Spot

Within the discussion begun in the Polis ¹ 5, 2004, the author inquires into the question of the subject and of the foundation of world politics from the viewpoint of a researcher of the Internet and of new political structures, such as intelligent crowds, movements of anti-globalists, on-line communities etc. Noting that it is a new paradigm that must underlie a new science, he qualifies as extremely strange the case of world politics which, having barely got firmly established, is not just trying to stand next to international relations and political theory, but claims to supplant them, on account of the change of the very notion of the Political. In order to find its own field, he stresses, world politics needs an object of research — a “global phenomenon”, the analysis of which can be coped with only in a zone of different sciences’ contiguity, on departure into the interdisciplinary expanse — and, moreover, with not only comparative political science and international relations taken on, but also political economy, sociology, network analysis, evolution modelling, genetic algorithms etc.
