Democracy in Russia: Contradictions and Problems

The author offers for discussion a topic not too popular nowadays in Russian scholar discourse and practically disregarded in mass media. His article contains detailed analysis of the reasons that called forth the back-stream of the first democratization wave roused in Russia by the events of August, 1991. The author is convinced that Russia today, in order to embark upon her own path of democratic development, is in need of not just a “second wave” of democratization, but of the formation of really democratic world outlook and of genuinely democratic movement.
