Geopolitics: Major Problems and Results of Development in the 20th Century

In his article, the author discusses problems related to the development, both methodological and substantial, of a discipline that shaped in the course of the 20th century: geopolitics. He analyzes the evolution of the discipline and reflects on what is the influence of modern realities on new geopolitical approaches as being worked out. Special attention is given to the purposeful activities of creating political-geographical images; it is these latter that integrate, as is ever clearer, into a geopolitical picture of the world. What is, however, as unclear as before, the author stresses raising the appropriate question, is how the geopolitical images themselves exist and undergo transformation. It remains - and it is necessary - to reveal the laws of functioning and development of metageopolitical expanses, of their configurations and image-bearing ensembles, D.N.Zamyatin concludes.
