Ethnic Aspects of the Institutionalization of Political Process in Ukraine

The article throws light on such aspects of the political process institutionalization in Ukraine, on which ethnic moments have a bearing. Thus, factors telling on the political process institutionalization and particularly attended to in the article, are: (a) the fact that the Ukrainian ethnos has not yet formed as subject of statehood; (b) interrelations of the Ukrainian and other ethnoses inhabiting the country; (c) official Kiev’s inconsistency in the «Russian question»; (d) lacking system of ethnonational representation in the power structures both in the centre and in the regions. The author singles out, as urgent at the current stage of the Ukrainian statehood formation, the tasks of working out an explicit ethnonational policy and of creating formal political mechanisms due to provide stability of the political system and the formation of civil society in Ukraine.
