Science and the Mass Media

The author points to the extreme one-sidedness of the account of events and processes in modern Russian science, being given by mass media (first of all by TV) resulting in the emergence of an inadequate image of science as “a burden to society”, “a beggar extorting handouts” unable to help the country in whatever way. The situation in the relations between the mass media and science is due, in the author’s opinion, not only to the lack of a well-adjusted mechanism of their interaction insofar as information is concerned, but also to biased position of most TV companies, conditioned by specific interests of their owners.
