The Ukrainian-Russian Relations: European and Eurasian Context

The author analyzes the intricate complex of Ukraine’s foreign policy, which comprises numerous components. It includes, in particular, the country’s relations with West-Central Europe, for the formation and development of Ukraine as an independent state is determined by her «return to Europe»; the complex analyzed includes, furthermore, her relations on the post-Soviet expanse, first of all her relations with Russia. In the author’s opinion, Russia appears as a «restrictive factor» of its kind in the way of Ukraine’s rapprochement with European community; at the present stage, though, their bilateral relations are, anyway, characterized by a purely pragmatic approach, par excellence.
